Hormones in milk. Pesticides on produce. Feces on meat. Say what? I’m not a foodie, I’m rarely a cook, and I don’t have the time for slow food. Truth is, all I’m looking for is a decent meal - preferably one that my kids will eat, as well. So I begin my quest for a cleaner plate. If you’re looking for a better meal - one that is fresh, healthful, and unsullied - then you can consider yourself a member of the Cleaner Plate Club, too. As I come across recipes, insights, good reading, I’ll post them here.

I’ll try to remember to pass some along to you when I come across anything great. I typically only prepare vegetarian meals. If hubby wants meat, he buys it and prepares it himself. Nava Atlas has some great cookbooks and I also pull from the Vegetarian Teen’s Cookbook and the Student;s Vegetarian Cookbook (I think that’s what they’re called). Any recommendations for more?

If you find any wheat free and yeast free recipes (of any sort) please let me know.

You can find some really easy, nutritious toddler-friendly recipes on my site. All of which can be prepared over a single nap period. Okay, except the Vanilla Bean-Sweet Potato with Brown-Sugar Pecan crust … hey, it’s dessert! All are based on seasonal, local foods and healthy ingredients, plus a side of humor on the struggles of introducing food to a toddler. I hope you stop by! I know I’ll come back to visit here.

Hey there! It’s me, Cynthia’s friend, Gayle. She sent me the link a few weeks ago and finally today I had the time to check out your extremely witty and informative writings. In January when I took my son, Carson, age 7, to his annual physical, I realized that I needed to change our eating habits and asap at that. Carson is a fussy eater and would eat bread and cereal all day every day if allowed. He was hardly getting any fruits or veggies and was constipated. Majorly constipated. So I made a promise to myself and my family that I would send in fresh, raw fruits and veggies to school with them everyday and we would only go to restaurants like McDonald’s once in a great while. Carson and Aquinnah would go to McDonald’s for every meal if I’d let them. I know you’d like me to say that I’ll never take them again… wish I could. In any case, your healthy lifestyle is inspiring and I hope to try one of your recipes soon. :)

Having a hard time navigating the site, but I did see that our new cup, The Safe Sippy, was mentioned in the “Sipping Bisphenol A” post. If Charlotte’s mom would like a cup when they arrive in October, please shoot me an email with your address and I will send one along.

And thanks so much for the mention in the post.

Got your site through Ethicurean. Looks great and I definitely am a member of the “cleaner plate club”. I like that you seem to be willing to dig a bit on the issues and present some of the other side even when you rant!
