Heading for divorce court by way of the kitchen

A crazy, hilarious article in the New York Times today about the dynamics of couples who cook together. It is hard not to be amused by the optimism of these couples (oh, what will happen to them after children come along?). At the same time, I must confess that I once dated a man, who, while preparing a meal for me, said “are you going to do everything I tell you to do and let me be the boss here?” My answer was no, and many months later we broke up while in the middle of a run along Lake Michigan in Chicago (he wanted to run North, I wanted to run South, and that was that). Anyhow, it was probably for the best. I was not ready to be the beta-chef to his alpha-chef.

I read this article yesterday, too. It was interesting. When I read this:

I couldn’t help but think to myself “let’s see how charming it is after a few years of marriage.”

Love the concept of your blog and found it through Breed ‘Em and Weep which I found via Finslippy. Consider yourself blogrolled.

I’m here too via Jenn. I just want to say, since I am sure you have been burning with curiousity, that what I am looking for in anything even remotely related to food blog is a way to use my slow-cooker that does not involve using anything processed or released from the confines of a can. If you could suss out some great slow-cooker recipes that use healthy, fresh ingredients, you’d be a star my books and probably in the food blog*sphere as well. Good luck and have fun!

    Hi!

Another Jenn referral and I’m glad she did recommend your blog! My mom raised us kids on healthy organic food and we continually mocked her for it. Now years later, all grown up, all three of us try and buy food our food organic and seasonal at the market. Just saying - a mom’s (yours!) efforts do pay off. And there is healthy food that kids like.

I love food and I love reading about issues pertaining to food. I have recently become a vegetarian and have found new, easy and healthy foods to make. And the reason why a vegetarian diet is healthier is not because vegs don’t eat meat, but because they eat a generally healthier and more varied diet (lots of vegetables, grains and beans). If you’re at all interested in occasionally trying out easy, tasty and healthy vegetarian recipes, I recommend this community on livejournal (livejournal is a crazy, scary blog-type place where I’m probably the oldest person hanging out, but that particular community is great and perfectly sane).

    I’m guessing who the Alpha-Chef was…

    Funny!

My hubster is the alpha cook and that works fine for me since I don’t particularly enjoy cooking… but I’m the main cook during the week because of his hours. Now with his gluten allergy and his picky-ness about food, I am always in a tizzy. It’s not like he’s mean about it or anything, I just know I don’t cook the way he would and it bugs me.

BTW, I found your blog thru your friend’s Breed ‘Em and Weep blog. I am the publisher of Natural Family Online at http://www.naturalfamilyonline.com and a children’s writer http://www.ginaritter.com. Not that the children’s writer is all that relevant here I guess!

I am also a mommy of three boys ages 5, 8 and 11 (and trying to conceive #4) and always always always looking for ways to serve yummy things that aren’t so processed they’re toxic.

We’ve been on this journey for over 5 years, working on increasing the healthy and removing the rest. We do fairly well but I get OH SO BORED or overwhelmed from looking for recipes I know are good for us but are insanely easy and SO tired of the same things every week.

Thanks! I’ll be checking the blog out every week.

Cool site. Great information, written with a sense of humor! Anyone who writes haiku about xanthan gum is a keeper.

Found you thanks to Breed ‘em and Weep. Another all-star blog.

I know what an edamame is too … Angela Lansbury played her on Broadway.

Congrats on this wonderful blog - from kale to corn to cukes and haikus, gal you are so in with the healthy and out with the fake foods.
I love the photos of adorable children produced by a mommy and daddy whom I adore.

Do I say “break a leg” to help launch your site? “Nuke a nugget” may be more appropriate. Looking forward to all your witty and educational posts. You are such a fine researcher and such a fine friend to Jenn and me.

Welcome to the world of blogging. Now your mom will have another place to lurk. Much success!

In my kitchen, I am alpha. But I am kind, encouraging alpha, more of an alpha mentor. My husband likes to cook. He even enjoys doing my prep work for me. I wish he helped raise our child as well as he helps in the kitchen! The man has changed less than five diapers in the last year. I do more than that on a bad morning!
